Fight Internet & Media Censorship

Fight Biased Reporting, Main Stream Media & Internet Censorship

It is astonishing how many people truly believe that their media is open, fair and free. It is alarming but understandable at how brainwashed and complicit to the system they are. After all being subjected to the same old dance day in day out, year on year, through the formative years of childhood and adolescence makes it very difficult to break outside of the mould that has been cast for your thought processes and opinions.

Fortunately the internet exists and free and open information can be expressed, exchanged and researched. Sadly many people are still incapable of investigating ideas for what they are without making it into an issue of ego. Ideas are presented and reactions more often than not involve dismissive abuse, name calling, and compartmentalised thinking. It expresses how truly unprogressive man's mind really is whilst living within the illusion of their ego fueled identity.

That said, this must be tolerated and allowed as should the ideas and discussions that provoke them, the truly enlightened will see past the ego, past the tribalism and accept ideas for what they are - ideas to be investigated and accepted, rejected or an often overlooked option - judgment suspended pending further inquiry.

What any advocate of true freedom and open discourse must accept is that views opposing their own must be allowed to be expressed and censorship of opinion and ideas should be minimised if indeed there is any place for it at all. It is secrecy and censorship that place the few in positions of power over the many and there is no place for this in a world that values its people and values its future.

You can fight internet censorship by writing to your political representatives, writing to your ISP, protesting and campaigning for awareness surrounding the issue, joining pressure groups and so on. Ultimately be prepared for if and when censorship takes a real foothold and be ready to use other means of communication, newsletters, meetings, and other forms of communication can be used. Most importantly spread the word to your friends, family and colleagues. Don't get over excited, be calm, casual, friendly and factual without being boring, if the conversation holds great, if not let it drop and try again another time.

Also do not stop being vocal and critical over what you see and hear in the media. There are very few independent local publications left, most have been acquired by larger media groups and as such will have no right to an independent voice. You can still write and call newspapers or media channels and voice your opinion over their coverage of certain news. You can still point out to people that the news didn't cover a particular story or mention a certain fact.

Remember if you do not stand up for other people's rights even if you don't particularly care for them, there may be nobody left to stand up for yours when the time comes.
