"I have the greatest admiration for your propaganda. Propaganda in the West is carried out by experts who have had the best training in the world -- in the field of advertizing -- and have mastered the techniques with exceptional proficiency ... Yours are subtle and persuasive; ours are crude and obvious ... I think that the fundamental difference between our worlds, with respect to propaganda, is quite simple. You tend to believe yours ... and we tend to disbelieve ours."

This is a quote from a Communist Soviet correspondent who was based for five years in the U.S. (In reality the US government worked very closely with both the Chinese and Soviet communist governments even throughout the cold war. In fact many leading US businessmen spend large sums of money investing in the communist and nazi groups prior to their rise).

This was back in the days when there were around 50 separate US media corporations acting to serve news and entertainment to the people. Now there are 6.

It may not seem particularly strange then that real news is often ignored in favour of meaningless celebrity culture. The people in control of the media do not want an informed public, however they did and do have a somewhat more intelligent approach than that of the rather brutal propaganda techniques of the USSR.

The first trick is to cover the occasional minor scandal, or the odd bit of serious news to give the illusion that really important topics are being addressed and to project a rather thin facade that there are true journalists in mainstream media who uncover corruption, give politicians a hard time, and inform the people of all important scandals, legislation, and general political developments.

The simple fact is that this is not true. Many important stories are never covered and those which may be too conspicuous by their absence in the news are given very light or biased coverage. Examples of this include the lack of WMD in Iraq, the case of the Chagos Islanders, The Climategate Scandal, the mock terrorist attack training that was taking place at the exact same time and locations as the London 7/7 bombings, the murder of innocent civilians, women, children and the disabled in Palestine and the bombing of their refugee camps by military aircraft, the CIA links to the creation of Al Qaeda and drug trafficking - despite the genuine sensational aspects of all these stories they are barely ever mentioned.

The result is a nation of completely brainwashed dumb animals, wandering around in their own ideological cages believing that they are free while the farmer is sharpening his axe and readying the chopping block.

At present we have the brief but pervasive freedom of the internet, although this is nowhere near as free as people believe, in fact it never has been. However there is still an abundance of real news and information available if you know where to find it or what to look for.

This freedom is under severe threat. Despite the flood of irrelevant brain cheese that is thrust at people constantly, from pornography to music, from sitcoms to bingo and online gambling, real information is still having an impact online and alerting people to true events and wholescale corruption in ever increasing numbers.

As a result of this the real rulers of the world are feeling the need to take full control over the internet. Legislation has been passed in the UK, USA and Australia which will in effect allow 'the government' to control which websites you can access, when and for how long. These laws will not be used overtly but as with most government corruption, they will be used in stealth. There are some who believe a staged 'terrorist' attack on the internet will be used as the excuse to take complete control, although such a staged attack may be too obviously ridiculous to be used as it will simply awake huge numbers en mass about the nature of the tyranny that is closing in upon them. More likely is that corporate policy will decide this and there is not one thing you will be able to do about it. Most genuine services and utlilities are in the hands of private corporations and most have monopolies, at least on a local scale. The internet is no exception, while you are given the illusion you can just change provider, just like gas and water the infrastructure to your door is wholly owned by one company and that company has complete control over it. Plus, as we have seen with energy and water, prices are fixed and the providers work in unison to ensure the illusion of competition exists while maintaining a general overall increase in costs.

These methods have been tried and tested for decades. Prices for most commodities are fixed by cartels. Oil is a prime example of this but this applies right down to washing powder and bread. The real control is with the suppliers of raw materials and all areas of this are proceeding toward a singular monopoly just like the media.
